DIGITAL ARTS AND CRAFTS

February 2nd 16:20 to 16:40/Chair: Micaela Carrera-Byrne

In both projects, Monica and Justin demonstrate a keen ability to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, showcasing the timeless beauty of puppetry and folk art while exploring their relevance in today's fast-paced world. Through their innovative lens, they will invite us to appreciate the rich tapestry of human creativity, where age-old traditions find new life in the embrace of contemporary mediums.

“Four Hundred and Fifty” is a website that shows off Norwegian traditional art, focusing on ´Telemarksbunad´ (Norwegian national costume from Telemark) and ´Rosemaling` (rose paint). How they are made, and sewn, and the history of this traditional Norweigan clothing.

My project is titled “Strings of Creativity”. It is a documentary that explores puppetry in contemporary media and its rise and fall from popularity due to the technological advancements of computer-generated images. It will also explain how puppetry, despite its drawbacks in comparison to its computer-generated counterpart, is still able to find ways to innovate itself and grow - never letting it truly die from the entertainment industry.
